I came across this article recently discussing a different approach towards discipling students. It argues, in certain cases, against the standard punishment/reward system that is currently used in most classrooms. Instead it argues for an approach where the student is challenged on why they are acting out. This is done after class in a private setting.
The ultimate goal is to help the student realise why they themselves are acting out and, hopefully, in time come to control this. As seems to be the case with all effective teaching strategies this seems like it will take some extra time and effort to implement, it is definitely much easier to dole out a standard punishment exercise for any infractions during class. But I definitely think it is worth pursuing and I will definitely be road testing it myself.
